In Memoriam: NBC Newsman Tim Russert

My God I am in shock I just saw this right this minute Saturday morning here in Brisbane. Australia I have been watching the programme Meet the Press religiously for years.

Rest In Peace Tim !

I am in shock. I enjoyed watching and listening to Tim Russert. I had always counted on his non-bias discussions and questions of all guests on Meet The Press. My prayers and thoughts are with his family and all of his family at NBC NEWS.

I'm very saddened by our nation's loss. Tim Russert was remained a humble man who was an inspiration to me. His love for his father, his son and family was so evident...he had such a wonderful heart. What a professional..he was the epitome of ethical professional. He never used cheap shots and always held his ground with intelligence. He will be greatly missed and my prayers go out to his family.

I will miss Tim Russert. My heartfelt sympathies go out to his family (and to the city of Buffalo).

This is such a tragedy, he was such an incredible journalist

I'm sure that I speak for many people when I say that I am stunned by Tim Russert's sudden death. I have no idea how I will get through the rest of this election year without him...and I'm certain that NBC will be hard-pressed to do the same. He was my daily dose of logic and sanity. I relied heavily on his opinions, his knowledge and his decency. My deepest condolences to his family at home and his family at the bureau offices in Washington.

Our condolences to the Russert Family and his colleagues at NBC. Meet the Press has become one of my favorite shows , Sunday mornings rituals included reading the paper and watching Mr. Russert dissect the weekly events in Washington. We looked forward to seeing who was going to run the Russert gauntlet each week. This news comes as such a terrible shock.

Sunday mornings will never feel the same without Tim. We are in shock at the loss of such a passionate man. My husband and I would laugh and pause our Tivo because we would just get so excited to watch him like a kid in a candy store. It is a shame that he will not be able to enjoy this exciting election year. Our thoughts are with his wife and son.

Such a sad thing to hear about Tim as he has always been one of the most gifted people. Always prepared with his guest, always graceful and treated them well and knew his subjects well and just seemed like such a wonderful all around person. I learned so much from Tim. I will miss his passion and wisdom.

Go in Peace Tim.

Tim was certainly larger than life and appeared to have lived more than twice his 58 years. I will certainly miss his appearances on the Today Show and Meet the Press, since as a person who in general never followed politics very much, I never missed his show... I will truly miss him!

As a generally non political person, I never missed Meet the Press or his appearances on the Today Show...I will miss him terribly, especially in the upcoming election. He appeared to have lived a life well beyond his 58 years...what an inspiration for all of us!

Tim Russert was like our brother. A powerhouse in his field, bright in mind and in soul. We are in total shock and disbelief and will miss him forever. Meet the Press will never be the same. Our thoughts go out to his family and all those priviledged to know.

Tim IS one of the greatest jounalists of his time. Even though I am not an American citizen, I learnt so much about America and its politics from him and his Sunday show that I watched religiously. For me Sunday started with him. In his death I feel I lost a friend I never met. My condolences to his own and the entire NBC family. Tim, I will miss you!

His passion for politics was inspirational. There is a huge disturbance in the political force. The average American lost a huge advocate in Washington. I hope someone steps up and tries to fill this void. I used to have breakfast with him every sunday. what a loss! His family and friends are in my prayers.

As a 37 yr. old mom of 2, every week I looked forward to my husband entertaining the kids on Sun. morning while I watched Tim Russert. There was no filler, no negativity, no self-indulged slant. Just logic, good natured conversation, and representation of the American people. The only one to watch during elections, crisis,.... I loved watching him dance in the front row to Bruce Springsteen on the Today show--it makes sense that he loved this other straight talker. I wish he had the opportunity to interview Springsteen on Meet the Press. I will never forget his enthusiasm.

My family and I are sadened by the passing of Tim Russert. All weekend we heard what a great human being he was. I admired him and watched and learned from him for many years. The news will never be the same without him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this very tough time. I wonder if Tim knew just how very much he was loved by all, I sure hope he did. What a great man.

He would ask the questions that typical registered voters would ask and want to know. I so enjoyed listening and watching Tim Russert, I relied on his honesty and I learned so very much from his passion for the good of this country and our political system. I truly am afraid for America to elect a President without him! I will be thinking of him as I cast my vote. Please shine down on us from above Tim. i was in shock when i heard the news i had come home from a night out and turned on the tv and there it was. at first i thought that it was rumor but then flipped the channel and it had the same thing and then i knew it was true and i started crying. i have watched tim since i was 9 yrs old and will miss him depply. i feel so bad for his family and NBC we have lost an icon

A real class act and a superlative journalist. In this day when journalistic integrity seems to be in a state of flux, Tim not only held but raised the bar. His insight, his method, his public impartiality, his humour will all be very much missed by those of us 'news junkies' out here. Deepest condolences to his family and friends on a shockingly sudden loss of a such a young and truly decent man.

Mr Russert what a guy you were! Wow! look at everyone who showed up for your services - their amazing words. I cried as if you were my personal friend - and I suppose you were in a way!....I learn my politics from Meet the Press.....not Rush, not Sean, but Tim...a quality show, a quality man.....God bless Maureen and Luke Russert.....what a son.....Tim or should I say Mr Russert - you will be missed..thanks for the memories....

Answering my own question: IMDb says that he was last on just under a month ago, May 15. I wonder if Jon will make a mention of it on tonight's show.

Daily Show is only 4 days a week, and will next broadcast a new show on Monday, June 16th.

I too am a young American who has watched Tim for as long as I can remember. What a sad day. His wife and son will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I agree with Rebecca -- a true journalist who always cut to the chase and gave fair, non-biased and complete coverage. We need more Tim Russerts in American broadcast journalism.

I've many fond memories of staying up all hours that election night in 2000 and being constantly entertained and informed by Mr. Russert and his dry-erase board!

I think that as a young American I was more drawn to politics because of Mr. Russert. His wisdom and his insightfulness helped me to develop a greater interest in the political arena and listening to him was always educational because he spoke with such authority in a fair and concise way. I too will miss him. What a shame too, to lose someone like Mr. Russert in the middle of this historic election process. It's just not going to be the same without him. My condolences to his family, friends, and co-workers.

I was going to make a very similar comment. I literally cannot remember a time when Tim Russert was not on TV (I'm also 26). Only recently (with the most recent election coverage) had I begun to truly realize what an incredible and insightful journalist he was. It is truly our loss as a nation. My thoughts and deepest sympathies to his family.

There a very few political analysts as talented as Mr. Russert was. I'll never forget his interview of Senator Moynihan shortly before his death on Meet the Press. God Speed Tim.
